Tension and Hollow is both a sculpture and a musical instrument. Wu Sih-Chin created the form while Sayun Chang handled the arrangement and performance. The materials and appearance of the piece bring to mind the natural environment, people, and history of the east coast in a sketch from life of the overall state of that environment and its narrative in an attempt to reveal its hidden nature.

The piece was made with references to bamboo, symbols of the Lalood no Madawdaw (an incident of Indigenous resistance against police oppression in 1911) , the coastal landscape, and culture, playing a song of sensory experiences of the mountains and sea.

The name of the piece not only echoes its physical properties but also serves as a metaphor for the natural and cultural setting there. The blend of form and sound is not about recreating one specific narrative but revealing the multilayered and still-developing vocabulary of the landscape.
